RV Types Explained
What the classes mean, who each suits, and what to watch for on a Bay Area trip.
| Type | Sleeps | Drives like | Bay Area notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class B (campervan) | 2 | A big van | Easiest city parking; fits anywhere. Best for couples. |
| Class C | 4-6 | A truck | The sweet spot. Fits most park sites including Big Sur limits. |
| Class A | 4-8 | A bus | Check every park's length cap first; skip for Highway 1. |
| Travel trailer | 2-8 | Towed | Cheap and roomy, needs a tow vehicle and backing skill. |
Rental prices generally rise with size: campervans are cheapest, Class A most expensive. See renting an RV for the full picture.
